Rhea Fugal, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and have worked with individuals, couples and families for about 19 years. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and moved to the San Diego area in 2006. I have always enjoyed interacting with people and problem solving is like a game to me. Play therapy is my passion and I love to work with children as well as adults using play therapy techniques. We all need to play!
For seven years I worked with military families and their unique issues. While at Naval Medical Center San Diego I worked in the Child Guidance area. Military parents and kids have special needs because of the life style the military imposes. Many changes and losses along with the normal child development issues add to their stress. Using play therapy along with traditional methods of therapy, I am able to help them sort through their feelings and understand their own behavior and thoughts in order to resolve problems. Using art, problem solving, therapeutic games and sand tray experiences we can explore and heal while we have fun.
I have specialized training to work with ADHD problems as well as child abuse (sexual and physical). Children and parents learn how to cope with the stress and confusion that often accompanies these problems. I have experience treating adults and children with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, addictions, adjustment disorders, fears and phobias and relationship issues. I am skilled at using Short-Term Solution Focused therapy, Play Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I am also trained in the use of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
